Developing my concept
In response to my research, I have decided to focus on detail around places such as the neckline, cuffs and trims of knitwear. To make my concept further sustainable I am going to make these detailed areas intricate and delicate, almost like jewelry. This way, when the main body of the garment has worn out, the shape has gone out of fashion, or the customer is no longer satisfied, they can return their garment so the main part can be unravelled and re-knitted but the detailed neckline, cuffs or trim arent re-knitted but are the only part of the garment that is kept.
To develop my work I have been experimenting with the cable stitch and different patterns surrounding it to make it detailed and intricate.
Pringle of Scotland
Through my research I have particually been looking at Pringle of Scotland for their extensive use of the cable stitch.
Whilst I have been researching their different garments it has moved my concept for this sustainable fashion module on.
I have noticed they seem to use cable stitches particually around places such as the neckline which has given me inspiration to do the same in terms of making my design concept more sustainable...
Sustainable Fashion
I'm currently doing a project for my University course on sustainable fashion.
As I'm specialising in knit for this module, I've been looking at traditional Knitting techniques to represent the way that in the past, clothing in the United Kingdom was a lot more cultured and resulted in it being more sustainable from the build up of an emotional connection, particually within homemade garments where techniques like this cable stitch would have been applied. This stitch is going to be my main focus within my body of samples and work.
This is one of my first cable stitch samples I have done.
